Service Inclusion

This service is for patients:

• Aged 1 year or older with signs or symptoms of an infected insect bite or sting (see below) that is present or worsening at least 48 hours after the initial bite or sting.

Service Inclusion

This service is not available:

• To individuals under 1 year of age
• During pregnancy or suspected pregnancy in individuals under 16
• If the bite or sting occurred whilst travelling outside the UK

Symptoms of an infected insect bite or sting include:

• A spreading of redness and swelling around the site
• Evidence of pustular discharge (weeping) at the site 

A lump at the site may look red. However, this may be more difficult to see on black or brown skin but you should be able to feel it instead.
